WELSH Water has revealed that the cause of flooding in Ross-on-Wye on Sunday was mainly due to a broken sewer pipe.
At Monday’s meeting of Ross Town Council Cllr Ed O’Driscoll explained that it has been established that the main problem was a broken underground sewage pipe which was discovered after a camera had been placed in the pipe.
“The problem was escalated and prioritised as being the most important job to be rectified and crews had four hours to arrive on site.
“Broad Street will be closed overnight to allow the works to take place and it is expected for the road to be opened at some point on Tuesday morning.”
The meeting also heard that the amount of rain that fell in the space of 20 minutes was between 40 and 50 centimetres, according to two sources.
The meeting was also told that even with a fully functioning sewer network, it would not have been able to cope with this amount of rain in such a short space of time.
