Over the last few years the ‘Knit and Natter’ Group, which meets at Smallbrook Gardens in Ross-on-Wye, have been busy knitting thousands of poppies to support the Royal British Legion, as well as thousands of garments for the charity ‘Link to Hope.’
Link to Hope works to help people of all backgrounds, providing help and services to the poor and marginalised. They send all of their knitwear all over the world, to anyone that needs it. Anne Gray runs the knitting group, which consists of around 22 members.
On Monday, April 9th, Sarah Jones, a Community Fundraiser for the Royal British Legion in Herefordshire, presented them with a ‘Herefordshire Certificate of Appreciation’.
Sarah told the Ross Gazette, “’It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Knit and Natter Group in Ross and meet all the local ladies that are continuing to support the Poppy Appeal. Over the past three years the group has knitted almost 1,000 poppies for us. Each year these are then sold for a donation in Morrisons. The support from this group has meant over the last few years our collections have increased.
“The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community- serving men, veterans, and their families, and through the support of groups like Knit and Natter we can continue to support those who need our services.”
Sarah also mentioned a new scheme to encourage knitting groups across Herefordshire to knit red blankets to mark the end of WWI.
