Abi Beddard will be running the London Marathon in April 2018, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).
Abi, formerly from Ross-on-Wye, is a physiotherapist in London, working with patients who have brain tumours.
Abi told the Ross Gazette: “This charity is one which is very close to my family and to many of my friends’ hearts.
“At the age of 14, my brother Matthew Beddard lost his battle to cancer. Not only is this normally a difficult stage of your life going through your teenage years, but it was made much worse by battling cancer.
“When Matt passed away, discovering Teenage Cancer Trust gave us the opportunity to give something back and help other young people with cancer. “Teenage Cancer Trust provides fantastic care and support, for teenagers like Matt, so they don’t have to fight cancer alone.”
Past charity days in aid of TCT have included a nail day, which they now organise every year at Ross Health and Fitness, and family members and friends have also climbed Snowdon and organised an aerobathon, to name just a few of the many ways they have helped raise thousands of pounds in Matt’s memory.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor Abi in the London Marathon, and the donations will be quickly processed and passed onto the charity.
Some of Matthew Beddard’s closest friends are also participating, including Emily Mutton, who is also running for TCT and Nick Ellis, who is running for brain tumour research.
Virgin Money Giving is a non-profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
Abi has currently raised £310, but her target is £2,500.
