Police were called to Whitchurch village on Friday, following reports that a man carrying an axe had been seen near the building.

A terrified onlooker told the Ross Gazette that an axe had been put through the windscreen of a car, as parents and guardians were collecting their children at the end of the school day.

Herefordshire Council and Whitchurch Primary School were asked to comment on the incident, but they said they were unable to do so as a police investigation was currently underway.

*West Mercia Police said that a 64-year-old man from Whitchurch was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and criminal damage on Friday, June 10th. He has been released on police bail until June 29th.
