West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses or information following a fatal collision near to Ross-on-Wye this morning, Monday, March 19th.

Police have issued the following statement: Shortly before 7.30am, a two vehicle collision took place on the A40 between Ross-On-Wye and Weston-Under-Penyard. It is believed that a white Vauxhall Vivaro van had been travelling eastbound in the direction of Weston-Under-Penyard and a silver Vauxhall Corsa had been travelling in the opposite direction towards Ross-On-Wye.

The driver of the Corsa, an 18-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham by air ambulance, where she sadly later died. Her next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the Vivaro, a man in his thirties, attended Hereford Hospital.

Road closures were in place whilst emergency services were in attendance. The road has now reopened.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Andy Wortley from West Mercia Police said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or to anyone who may have seen either vehicle prior to the incident taking place to please come forward.

"It is thought that prior to police attending the scene, an off-duty female nurse assisted in offering first aid. We would also like to speak with her as she may be able to assist with enquiries.

"If you have any information, please call 101 quoting incident 59s of 19 March 2018."
