Forest of Dean District Council (FODDC) has prosecuted a local man for offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. 

Mr George Bradley of Foley Road, Newent failed to dispose of domestic and business waste correctly which resulted in a fly tip offence.

On 20 April 2018 officers working for FODDC attended a site on the Dymock Road outside Newent following reports of waste being dumped. They found a number of black bags and builder’s waste at the roadside. Investigations identified Mr. Bradley as the owner of the waste; he was known to FODDC as he had previously received a £50 Fixed Penalty Notice for fly-tipping in 2017. Mr. Bradley failed to attend an interview with Officers from the Council.

Mr. Bradley appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on 11 February and pleaded guilty. He was given a £600 fine which was reduced from £900 due to the timely guilty plea and some mitigation. Costs of £500 were awarded to ‘the Council’ and Mr Bradley was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge. 

Cllr Chris McFarling, the Cabinet Member for Environmental issues at FODDC, commented,

“This prosecution clearly demonstrates the Council’s commitment to protecting the environment and preserving the appearance of the Forest of Dean District.
